silphium blessings

appliqué quilt with thrifted materials

The silphium family (prairie dock, compass plant, cup plant, rosinweed) are flaunting their charm in the high summer sun right now and I’ve greeted nearly every single one! I appreciate their sturdy perch for songbirds and wonder what they can teach us about purposeful orientation and conservation in times of need. Oh, what they must know about drawing up cool water in arid days. Verticality is daring and wise in a land of seemingly endless horizon.
